Did you know that love was born in the deep blue sea? Yes. The mythologies of the WORLD confirm it. From Venus to Laxmi, the goddesses of love, beauty, wealth and prosperity all sprung from the depths of the ocean. Hence the phrase ‘how deep is your love’ means much more than just mush! This Valentines Day make sure you pay a tribute to these goddesses so that they may shower their blessings on you. We bring you the best ways to celebrate this day and month.

A Yacht party OFCOURSE tops the list! Enjoy a romantic cruise on the bay aboard a Yacht. Treat your sweetheart to a gourmet dinner and lose yourselves in the romantic atmosphere of the fiery sunset sky and the cool blue sea. Far away from the madding crowd, make sure to hop on to a love boat and sail away with your honey.

The first boat show in the 2011-2012 boating season in India – The Goa International Marine & Boat Expo (GIMBE); was successfully hosted and organized by Mr. Kedar Dhume & Mr. Clive Sequeira of Media Promotions Pvt. Ltd. achieved its aims; thus marking an optimistic start for the new year. This year the GIMBE’11 collided with the 50th anniversary celebrations of Goa’s Liberation and Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s public rally in Goa; and yet, managed to attract the right kind of exhibitors and visitors, resulting in good sales; which has now proved that the GIMBE is now an important event in its own right.
Held from the 16-18 December 2011, on the banks of the river Mandovi, at the SAG Grounds in Panaji, the capital city of Goa; the Goa International Marine & Boat Expo 2011 also showcased a water display at the jetty, which was at a walking distance from the land displays. The first day of the show saw few visitors as the day was dedicated to the press and the vip guests for the inauguration ceremony. The second day of the show coincided with the political rally (which took place on the grounds just opposite the exhibition) and resulted in low visitor turnout. However, the final day (Sunday 18th) more than made up for the previous apprehension and no-shows as visitors turned up in large numbers. Sales were recorded on the final day making it a time-and-effort-worthy event for exhibitors.
Analysing Market Demand:
Every year, the (GIMBE) records a healthy number of sales for small and large speedboats and sailing catamarans. The backwaters of Goa are ideal for such boats; with buyers being mainly water front property owners. Apart from Goa’s own rich and famous, including the Dempos, Salgaocars, Chowgules, Vedant,, Timblos, Menezes, etc, many of India’s big names own vacation villas in Goa.. Interested buyers, who have been visiting the Goa boat shows consistently every year, exploring the best options in the past 2 or 3 years, sealed the deal and finally made their purchases this year.
There are innumerable beaches in Goa offering a range of water sports to indulge in. Over 40 beachfront luxury resorts and an equal number under development constitute a huge market for boats, yachts, jet skis and water sports equipment. With the biggest and most renowned hotel chains, Goa is an important international event destination. And thus, a lot of sales were generated from the tourism sector. Water sports and fishing equipment along with ribs and dinghies were all on the fast selling list.
Visitor Profile:
The most serious buyers visited the show in the first half of the day. Potential buyers were much more focused and knowledgeable about what they wanted in terms of brand awareness, costs and availability of a range of services. They comprised of individuals who owned waterfront properties, resorts and hoteliers, boat owners looking for an upgrade, enthusiasts looking at converting their purchase into a business model, inquiries for security and patrol boats, rescue boats and diving boats, water sports equipment, banks for yacht insurance and financing, companies from the entertainment industry and tourists inquiring about regulation procedures to bring their boats to India.
The afternoons were a no show since Goa loves its afternoon siesta! Visitors returned in heaps in the evenings but only half of them were a quality audience, the rest were mostly family groups and visitors interested in getting photographed alongside the boats on display.

On Display @ GIMBE’11
The 1 lakh boat: Multi Tech Marine presented the Sea Jack 4, a dinghy boat with a capacity of six persons. The boat was on special offer – priced at Rs.1 lakh only. (Without engine) They also displayed “Smiley Cat”; a 4 meter sail cat for first-time sailors. One can even go water skiing or wakeboarding after attaching a 25 hp engine.

Navnit Marine displayed the sleek 8 seater, Bayliner 180. Economical and best suited for the backwaters, it requires as less as a 2.5 feet draft. Also displayed at their stall was the Polaris Sportsman 500 HO (ATV) that is gaining popularity amongst owners with beach front properties, the government for beach patrolling, as well as wineries for use in factory premises to tow up to 1 ton of weight.
The Lancer 19 (center console), 19 feet in length, Indian manufactured by Praga Marine, marketed by Marine Solutions can take upto 10 persons and comes with options of a wakeboard tower or bimini.
Aquatainment presented the 5.5 meter Silver Craft which is C.E. certified by the European commission. She makes an ideal family boat and comfortably seats 6-7 persons.
The 260 EC Rinker by SS Marine displayed at the entrance along with the sporty Regal by Causeway Marine India caught the fancy of many a visitor before they walked on to see the rest of the exhibit.
George Maijo& Industries exhibited the thrilling Yamaha VX700 jetski along with F200 BETX (200 / 150 HP 4 stroke) out board motors best suited for boats ranging from 7-10 meters.
West Coast Marine Yachts and Services (WCMYS) displayed the 31 Dolphin SC – By far the most seen boat in the Mumbai harbour is the Silvercraft 31. Besides the craft, WCMYS displayed a range of products that included Suzuki obms, International Yacht Paints, ACR docks and floating pontoons, sea gear by GILL and boat equipment by HOLT.
Rae Sport introduced Olympic racing kayaks and surf ski kayaks at the show. These were accompanied by extra light weight carbon paddles with adjustable length and angles. Doris – kayaks for babies, meant to be used in swimming pools were an adorable option in the range of water sports equipment displayed in their stall. Litmus International exhibited a wide range of kayaks and canoes. Paddle boats, HDPE(high density poly ethylene –a high grade plastic) boats and the famous ‘green obm’; the fuel free Toquedo attracted quite an audience.
The water display had Marinetek set up a floating pontoon adjoining the Kala Academy jetty, a few steps away from the land exhibit. Marine Solutions’ chose to bring in the 11.5 meter Mercury Bluefin Cabin ferry and Sea Ray (175, 300 and 350).

Issues facing the Indian leisure boating market and the GIBME
Although the potential of the market seems huge; the number of actual sales has yet to match the same. And just minimal infrastructure development will make the difference. Many tourists own boats back home and would love to cruise down to Goa if only there was adequate infrastructure and regulation procedure in place. An increased number of visiting yachts will make India a sought after sailing destination on the world map. Once we have them coming in, international rallies and regattas will automatically follow suit. Another decade should not be lost before we see the era of boating in India reach its maximum glory…a point that has been made again and again, by the exhibitors, the organizers, the owners and visitors to the show and IndiaYachtPage.com

To view images of the show click here.

To conclude, IndiaYachtPage.com wishes the exhibitors good luck on the leads, and congratulates Media Promotions for another triumphant show!

A decade ago water skiing, surfing, and wake boarding were almost non-existent but with improvements in sports gear and the safety measures, these wind and water sports are coming into demand. Such activities have transformed from being mere recreational activities to full time sports activities.

Some of the wind and water sports that are increasingly gaining huge popularity through out the world are as follows:

Wake Boarding: It is a surface water sport which involves riding a wakeboard over the surface of a body of water. It was developed from a combination of water skiing, snow boarding and surfing techniques. The rider is usually towed behind a motorboat.
For easy wakeboarding, this is normally done in lakes. The two important components of wakeboarding are the board and the boat. The most important part of the board is the fins. The wake boarder adjusts the fins according to the type of tricks he has to perform. Shallow fins are best suited for tricks. The speed of the boat plays a very important role in the performance of wake boarder and the kind of tricks he can do. The speed of the boat is altered in accordance with the water body.

Water Skiing: It’s a sport where an individual is pulled behind a boat or a cable ski installation on a body of water, skimming the surface. Water skiing usually begins with a deep water start, with the skier crouching down in the water. When the skier is ready, the driver accelerates the boat to pull the skier out of the water. In addition to the driver and the skier, a third person known as the spotter/observer should be present. The spotter’s job is to watch the skier and inform the driver if the skier falls.

Tubing: It is a recreational activity where an individual rides on top of an inner tube, either on water, snow air through air. Tubing on water generally consists of two forms: towed and free-floating, also known as river tubing. Towed tubing usually takes place on a large body of water such as a lake or river. One or more tube riders tow their tubes to a powered watercraft such as a motor boat. The riders are then towed through the water by the watercraft. In free-floating tubing, the tube riders are not towed to anything or motor boat. They are then conveyed by the current of the waterway. This is still in its nascent stage and is gaining popularity. To encourage this sports artificial rive/ courses are made in water parks to enable tubing.

Kite Surfing: It is an adventure surface water sport that is a combination of wakeboarding, windsurfing, paragliding and gymnastics. The power of the wind is harnessed to propel a rider across the water on a small surfboard. A kite boarder uses a board with or without foot-straps or bindings, combined with the power of a large controllable kite to propel the rider and the board across the water. Power kites can be dangerous. Because of strong forces that can be generated by sudden wind gusts, people can be lofted, carried off, dashed against water, buildings, and terrain. But its safety record is improving due to advances in hybrid and bow kite designs and the ability to control the power that they provide, effective safety release systems, and wider availability of kite boarding schools.

Few anglers on the west coast realise that India, with its dozens of rivers and thousands of streams, offers vast opportunities for sports fishing and angling… Whether you’re the type who likes to string a worm onto a makeshift line and catch your own dinner or a thoroughbred professional angler with the latest in fishing tackle – India’s waters, both fresh and salt, can be a pleasant surprise. The country has an estimated 50,000 km of waters – rivers, streams, and lakes included and an additional 3,000 km of coastline Although sportfishing is still the preserve of a very select elite, there’s definitely a lot of scope for some satisfying angling. Major rivers and the coastal waters lapping the shores of peninsular India harbour marine sportfish such as mackerel, marlin and sea bass.

What makes angling or sportfishing easy in India is that most major cities lie along rivers, as a result of which getting to a suitable fishing spot is generally not a problem. Furthermore, most states have well-organised Departments of Fisheries, where special hatcheries ensure that there’s always a gene pool of local and exotic fish. Fish sanctuaries and hatcheries in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and other states through which major rivers flow, maintain a vast stock of fish which are specially bred for re-stocking rivers.

It probably won’t be long before veteran anglers will be able to attribute some of the `biggest ones’ to Indian rivers!

Timing your trip:
Angling or sportfishing is possible on Indian rivers almost throughout the year, although most state authorities forbid angling during the monsoon months, when fish are breeding. Regional variations in climate, can however, cause hindrances: most of the Himalayas, for instance, are too cold to allow any angling during the winter months. On the whole, October to November and mid-February to mid-May are the best times to go sportfishing in India along the coasts.

Licenses and permits:
Fishing licenses are mandatory for all eager anglers, so go to the designated official before you throw your line into the water, or you just might find yourself being hauled off and penalised. In most cases, fishing licenses are not issued during the monsoon (when most fish species breed); in addition, most licenses are issued for only a specified stretch of water. Furthermore, there are stipulations that all fish caught must be released into the water, and anglers are restricted to a specified number of fish per day.

Angling licenses can be obtained from the organisations and offices listed below, for fishing in the corresponding state or region:
Kerala: High Range Angling Association, Munnar

Coorg: Coorg Wildlife Association, Madikeri

Karnataka: Wildlife Association of South India, Bangalore

Tamil Nadu: Palni Hills Game Association, Kodaikanal Assistant Director of Fisheries, Udhagamandalam

West Bengal: Fisheries Department, Mirik

Assam: Angling Association, Tejpur

Maharashtra: Fish Association of Powai Lake, Mumbai Tata Hydroelectric Works, Lonavla

Delhi: Assistant Warden of Fisheries, Delhi Administration,(at Okhla Barrage, Okhla)

If you’re a foreigner, and heading off to the Lakshadweep or Andaman & Nicobar Islands to do some sportfishing, you’ll need a permit from the Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi- or an authorised official in the state. The same applies to certain areas of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and other border states.

Things to bring along:
Patience – and lots of it! Angling requires oodles of patience and the skill to battle it out with a heavyweight fish of up to 200 kg for the next hour or more! To purchase your A-Z angling equipment contact Casa Ibrahim:

The Goa International Marine & Boat Expo 2011 (GIMBE) is not just a boat show in India, but also a world-class networking event where buyers and marine-driven suppliers connect and learn more about each other’s requirements. The great location at Kala Academy in Panaji provides a jetty adjoining the exhibition ground for the water displays. The Marine and boat expo attracts exhibitors from all over the globe. The show puts on a wide display of leisure boating products, yachts and luxury brands.

The GIMBE 2011 is going to be held from 15th December to 18th December and is in its third successive year. The first two editions of the expo tasted phenomenal success and the response this year is expected to be much bigger. “We are planning to take the event a step further and help it scale greater heights. The expo this year shall be definitely much bigger and better. More brands are expected to take part and the variety and the range of the products displayed will surely widen up” says Tamara from the Marketing department of Media Promotions Pvt Limited, the organisers of the expo.

With the event fast approaching, the existing infrastructure and facilities at Panaji are being upgraded. At present there are 40 beachfront luxury resorts and 40 more under construction. Last year’s boat show witnessed an exclusive on-water display which included India’s first 40-ft sailing Leopard catamaran from Cape Town in South Africa brought in by Aquasail, the Majesty 44 Motor Yacht and Viking 57 Sports Fishing Yacht from West Coast Marine and a floating cottage by Arshea Marine Concepts. Neil Marine too gave the boat show another first with the debut of Battuta on display in India. With an amazing market for boats for the backwaters and marina development, you simply cannot afford to miss the Goa International Marine & Boat Expo 2011.
