While fishing offshore, the rule of the thumb is – deeper the water, bigger the fish! One never knows when or where a big fish will strike. Most fishing tours are off the west coast of Goa, approx. 40- 60kms offshore with a depth range of 160-260ft. They offer high speed trolling, use of GPS, fish finder and depth sounder which encompass lots of ground to locate fish. Once located, fishing is done at steady trolling speed. Techniques range from trolling artificial lure, natural baits and trolling with down riggers. Experience the thrill and excitement of trolling lures through a Mackerel and Tuna feeding frenzy. Spinning and drift fishing is done with lures, poppers, natural baits and live baits for pelagic game fish such as King Fish, Wahoo, Cobia, Sail Fish, Dorado, Jacks, Tuna and Barracuda. This is a full day trip, with snacks, lunch, beer and other refreshments included, to make it the most enjoyable day on water.

Inshore fishing is best explored in the Sinqueirim Bay, Cabo Bay, Mormugoa Bay, Amee Shoal and Sunchi Reef. St George Islands, River Zuari, River Mandovi headland reefs and submerged wrecks which offer a variety of Snappers, Groupers, Barracudas and Jacks. Although trolling can produce the goods, bottom fishing and night fishing are also the most productive ways of fishing for groupers and variety of snappers.  Around mangroves and in backwaters, you can set crab traps for mud crabs. Dawn and dusk are the preferred time to fish.

Here in Goa, India, Barramundi and Mangrove Jack fishing is second to none. You can fish the two main rivers of Goa, the Mandovi River and the Zuari River, which are interconnected at one point, 40 to 50 kms deep down the remote rivers, creeks and estuaries. Fishing for the Big Barra and Mangrove Jacks in the rivers is always very productive all year round and can land you a very good catch with an average of 80-90 cms size (many exceeding 100cms) weighing six to nine kg. The deep blue warm and clear waters have abundant tropical fish life and coral at Grand Island, Bat Island, Sail Rock and dozen of other reefs. They are excellent for free diving spearfishing. You will be provided with fins, mask and snorkel, and a few pneumatic and rubber sling spear-guns. However you are encouraged to get your own personal mask, snorkel, fins and spear-guns. The session begins with an orientation briefing in which you learn how to use our equipment and safe diving techniques.

Mumbaiite Keiran Athaide is an avid angler whose holidays to Goa are never complete if he isn’t carting around his fishing gear in the boot of his car. “Goa offers multiple choices of fishing spots for various kinds of fishing. Best of all, most of these spot are already pre-tagged on various GPS maps. So, all I have to do is decide where I want to fish and drive down there. Also, the popular fishing spots provide one the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. You can strike up a conversation and maybe even make new friends. Then of course, there is the joy of enjoying one’s prized catch over a barbecue with friends,” he says.
